Moving or transferring

Territory Housing understands that the housing needs of tenants can change during their tenancy. Therefore there are many schemes that allow tenants to transfer from the public housing home originally allocated to them, to another home that suits their current needs.

To transfer, tenants need to let Territory Housing know the reasons why the move is necessary. Reasons may be because the number of people living in the home or because the current home is affecting health or placing the tenant at risk of domestic violence.

Tenants requesting a transfer need to complete the Transfer application form PDF icon 196 KB, with documented evidence to support the request, and deliver to your local Territory Housing office.

If a transfer is approved, the tenant will be added to the wait-list for a home suitable to their requirements. Transfer applications are treated in the same way as all other applications.

Downsizing

When your household size decreases you may be asked to transfer to a dwelling of your correct entitlement. If you refuse to comply with the transfer request you may not have your fixed-term lease extended.
