The 5th Indigenous Economic Development Forum (Forum), ‘Working Toward a Strong Future’ was held during October Business Month on Thursday, 13 October and Friday, 14 October 2011 at the Darwin Convention Centre. The event was successful with a focus on building strong networks. Feedback received from a range of delegates has been very positive.
The Forum held in Darwin attracted 343 people including 109 Indigenous people in business or considering starting a business, 50 non and not for profit organisations, 93 corporate and non-government businesses and a further 91 attendees from Local Government, Northern Territory and Commonwealth Governments. Forty delegates were from interstate, five from the United States of America and one from New Zealand.
A number of new initiatives were included value-adding to the program:
The Indigenous Business Expo was well attended, attracting 43 Indigenous businesses from across the Northern Territory. Also the Indigenous Business Expo was opened to the public for the first time this year and attracted over 200 people.
Government and Non Government partners promoted current Indigenous programs and services in booths along side the Indigenous Business Expo including the ‘Working Futures’ display.
